Mother Earth Rests, Sings the World to Sleep

This new work was made this evening. I sat and sketched on A4 medium-weight paper with watercolour pencils. I intended to make a wash over the top, but I like the cross-hatching and have decided to leave it be. I am making this into a large painting on canvas, But I’m not sure which medium to use yet…ink, watercolour or acrylic?

Three-Dimensional Thread Workshop

I had a wonderful day at a workshop with textile artist Michael Brennand Wood at the Bluecoat Display Centre. We explored three-dimensional threads and were shown how to use a power drill to combine wire with paper and yarn. I’d never done this before and it was a pretty hypnotic process! You loop a piece of wire between a vice and the drill to create a unique line, and as it spins you add in different textures which are bound up in the thread.
I took the threads and made shapes, and played with the contrast between linear thread and inked-over circles.
My next step is to make longer threads and create larger loops, and see where they go…
